4月 「しあわせだなあ」

Letter 　April　“I feel so happy.”

。「桜色」とは、淡い紅色のこと。

今では、桜といえば淡いピンク色のソメイヨシノを浮かべる方が多いと思いますが、

『古今和歌集』に詠まれた桜は、山桜。

ほんのりと赤みをたたえた山桜は素朴な美しさをたたえ、眺めているだけでしあわせな気持ちになります。

"'Sakurairo' refers to a pale reddish color.

Nowadays, when people think of cherry blossoms, they often picture the pale pink Somei Yoshino variety,

but the cherry blossoms sung about in the 'Kokin Wakashu' were mountain cherry blossoms.

Mountain cherry blossoms, with their slight reddish hue, possess a simple, natural beauty and just looking at them brings a happy feeling."

野に咲く一輪の花のように、見えない根っこの部分でしっかりと努力を惜しまず、きれいな花をさかせ、

だれが見ても「きれいな花だなあ」とこころが和むような存在になったとき、

じぶんも、また、あなたのまわりのひとたちも、「しあわせだなあ」と思うことでしょう。

Like a single flower blooming in the field, putting in solid effort in the unseen roots without

sparing any work, and blooming into a beautiful flower,

when you become a presence that makes anyone who sees it think 'what a beautiful flower' and feel at ease,

both you and the people around you will likely think 'how happy this is.'
