Jigenji Temple – Seasonal Letters   “Time Waits for No One”

The Harvest Moon has come and gone, and now we look ahead to Jūsan’ya — the moon of the thirteenth night, also known as the “later moon.” Waxing and waning, the moon quietly marks the passage of time. Before we know it, only two and a half months remain in the year.

– This Month’s Words from the Daiajari –

Time waits for no one. Life has its ebbs and flows, just like the tide: every wave that rushes in will, sooner or later, surely recede. If we let ourselves drift idly, the years simply slip away, and before we know it, it is time to prepare for the next world. When that moment comes, rather than protesting like a child, “I don’t want to go,” I hope to live each day of the life I have been given wholeheartedly — to practice life itself — so that I can smile and say, “It was a good life.”
