Letter December "Winter Madder ( Fuyu Akane )".
夕焼けといえば夏の季語ですが、季節によって夕景の印象もずいぶんと違って感じるものですね。夏はドラマティック、春の少し霞んだ夕焼け空はやさしく、秋はどこか物寂しさがただよいます。冬の夕焼け空を「冬茜（ふゆあかね）」といいます。口に出したときの響きが、なんともやさしいですね。冷たい風に吹かれながら見上げる冬茜は特別に心に染み入り、味わい深いものだと思います。
― 今月の大阿闍梨のひと言 ― いまじぶんじしんにあたえられたこの環境がしあわせなのです。そう思えるこころを養うことがほんとうのしあわせなのです。人生にはいいときもあれば悪いときもありますが、それでも、どんなときでもいまがいちばんしあわせと思えるなら、こんなにしあわせなことはありません。

Sunset is a seasonal word for summer, but the impression of the sunset is quite different depending on the season. Dramatic in the summer, gentle in the slightly hazy sunset sky in the spring, and somehow loneliness in the fall. The sunset sky in winter is called "Fuyu Akane". The sound when you put it in your mouth is very gentle. I think that the winter madder looking up while being blown by the cold wind is especially ingrained in my heart and has a deep taste.

I am happy with this environment that I have been given to myself. It is really happy to cultivate the mind that seems to be so. There are good times and bad times in life, but nevertheless, if you always feel the happiest, there is nothing like this.
