Letter September "Innocent"

道端に咲く可憐な萩の花。

万葉人は萩の花に鹿が愛を伝えるという、ユニークな和歌を詠みました。

萩の花と、鹿がよく鳴く季節が重なることから、萩の別名は「鹿の妻」。

そんな無邪気なまなざしで見つめたら、萩の花がますます可愛らしく見えました。

無邪気とは、邪（よこしま）な心がないということですが、かつて私たちには、誰にでも優しく、素直な心があったはずです。

Delicate bush clover blooming by the roadside.

In the Manyōshū, the people of old composed unique poems in which deer expressed their love through bush clover flowers.

Because the season of blooming clover coincides with the time when deer cry out most often, bush clover also came to be called “the deer’s wife.”

Looking at them with such innocent eyes, the clover flowers appeared all the more endearing.

To be innocent means to be without wicked or distorted thoughts.

Once, we all surely had hearts that were kind to everyone and open in their simplicity.
